Shuja Claims First Masters Title

After a big day of finals at the NZ Masters Championship 2015, the winners in each age group have been decided.
The second day of play proved to set up some interesting finals with many of the top seeds making their way through to their respective finals. There were however a number of upsets

along the way to the finals. In the Women's 35+ 3rd seed Erin Ellery beat defending champion Mickayla Kerr in 4. With Kerr suffering an injury which put her out of the teams event.  In the Men's draw the 35+ title has gone to Kashif Shuja after he managed to beat Corey Love in 4.

The 4th seeded Central Masters team of:

Men 35-39 Kashif Shuja
Men 40-44 Jason Fletcher
Men 45-49 Rod Bannister
Men 50-54 Rob Brownrigg
Men 55-59 Mark Gunning
Men 60+ Peter Souness
Men’s Res Mike Jack

Women 35-39 Mickayla Kerr
Women 40-44 Sally Stantiall
Women 45-49 Di Tasker
Women 50-54 Gael Win
Women 55+ Sherryl Curtis
Women’s Res Janice Trevathan

First up in the teams we played 5th seed Wellington, and just got pipped 6/5, a couple of matches could have gone either way, and it was a similar story with the same result when we played Waikato ( 7th seed) loosing 6/5.

Celebrations got out of hand later that night when the team got “lost” in Flaxmere.

Our last match was against Northland which we won 7/4. A confession from Kashif who had left his Team shirt at home saw him paying a fine, his” punishment” was to play his last game in a pink top and skirt!. Full credit he played along and his opponent Evans Chilese was blinded by some show of leg!,

Given that we didn’t quite retain our seeding, our crowning glory this year was to take out the Toilet Seat Trophy. – so cruelly stolen from us last year!! Instead of Skits, it was decided at the managers meeting to do something different, and a quiz was suggested and agreed upon.

A great combined effort form the team (answering some obscure questions I might add) accompanied by Gall & Janice’s spouses saw us win by a country mile.

So the tournament ended on a high, highlights were once again the Dinner Dance ,the Teams Dinner, and Flaxmere !
