Mexican Masters Hit Nationals

There will be some tired bodies around the district today as we welcome our Master team back from Tauranga and 5 days of gruelling Squash at the NZ Master Individual and Teams Nationals.

The Individual event was first up,  Kashif Shuja (PN) was defending his title in the youngsters category of 35 - 39.  Kashif took out the final in this age group in 4 games to retain his title.

Kent Darlington (WG) also made the final of his age group 40 -44 but lost in 3 and taking out the runners up position.

Rod Bannister (WG) took out 3rd in the 50 - 54 age group and Mickayla Kerr was our best ranked women taking 4th in the 40 -44 category but unfortunately suffered an archillies injury which took her out of the team competition.

Teams event - Central seeded 5th took on 4th seed Waikato in the first round.  The match up came down to the penultimate match but Waikato took the win 6/5.  The second match up for the day saw us up against Wellington 7th seeds.  It was another tight match up with the team giving it a final big push and getting the win 6/5.  This saw us playing off for 5th and 6th place against Southland (6th seeds).  Unfortunately Southland beat their seeding and took out the match up 6/5.  So tight matches every round and the team battled hard.  Masters is fierce competition like any National event but they also seem to have the most fun and a Mexican Fiesta was enjoyed by all.
