Ohakune Squash Club hosted a standout weekend of junior squash with the 2025 Central Juniors tournament over the weekend with smiles, sweat, and sportsmanship stealing the show. With players from across the Central District descending on the mountain town, the annual event proved once again why junior squash continues to thrive in the region.

The tournament was a showcase of youthful talent, fierce rallies, and above all, exceptional sportsmanship. From the very first serve to the final point, players of all ages demonstrated respect, resilience, and a genuine love for the game — win or lose.

Club volunteers and supporters ensured a warm welcome for visiting players and their families, with courts prepped and the clubrooms buzzing with energy. Friends and rivals cheered each other on, proving that camaraderie off court is just as important as competition on court.

“What really stood out this year was the attitude of the kids,” said the Anneka (Junior Convener) “They played hard but fair, and every match ended with a handshake and a smile. It was everything you want to see in junior sport.”

The event saw strong performances across all age groups and for some, it was their first taste of tournament play; for others, a key stepping stone on their squash journey. But no matter their experience level, each player brought determination, grit, and great spirit to the game.
