Our Central men’s and women’s Senior teams headed to our neighbouring district, Eastern who hosted the New Zealand Inter-district Team’s Championships held at Hawke’s Bay Squash Rackets Club in Napier to compete for the coveted Senior Team’s titles.

Day One:

Round one saw the men start their campaign against a strong Canterbury team, where they faced some difficult games. Canterbury were just too sharp taking the win 3-1 but with some close matches.  The women took on Wellington with some close matches, taking the win 3-1.

The second round saw the men play Bay of Plenty, the top seeded team, who proved too strong taking the round 3-1. The women’s team saw out the day with a 3-1 win against Waikato with some great games, finishing the day on a winning streak.

Day Two:

Round three saw the men kick off an early start on Saturday morning against Eastern. The round finished at 2-2, but Central took the win thanks to our young players Max and Brodie finishing their matches with a tidy 3-0. The women’s third round was always going to be a challenge facing the top seeds Bay of Plenty, a strong team, who dominated not dropping a game to take the win against our ladies 4-0.

The final round for the men found them playing off for 5th/6th against the host district Eastern, who some might say had the home advantage. Our men’s team however proved too strong taking the win 3-1, allowing Central Men to finish 5th the same as their seeding for the event. Congratulations to Max who didn’t drop a game all weekend.

The women faced a strong Northland team playing off for 3rd/4th which was always going to be challenge, but our Central ladies were there to put up a fight with some close games. Northland proved too strong taking the first three matches and securing 3rd place. The women’s team did well to retain their 4th place seeding.
