Our Central men's and women's Senior teams headed to our neighbouring district, Eastern who hosted the New Zealand Inter-district Team's Championships held at Hawke's Bay Squash Rackets Club in Napier to compete for the coveted Senior Team's titles. Day One: Round one saw the men start their campaign against a strong Canterbury team, where they faced some difficult games. Canterbury were just too sharp taking the win 3-1 but with some close matches.  The women took on Wellington with some close matches, taking the win 3-1. Our Central graded champions headed to Tauranga for the HEAD National Graded Championships that were run alongside the HEAD New Zealand Championships which our selected ‘A grade’ players played in. This event attracted New Zealand’s top squash players including World No. 2 Paul Coll and was the final tournament of the HEAD Pro series for New Zealand’s top squash players. This event provided the team with a great experience of participating in competitive environment across all grades of squash. Kawaroa Park in New Plymouth was this year’s host for the Central Open, an event that was well supported by players from across the country. The Central Open was sponsored by Janes Gallery and also doubled as a HEAD PSA tournament, the second to last event in the series, so the event attracted a wide field of A grade players across the both the men’s and women’s divisions. At the beginning of May the Central district Graded Champs was held at Inglewood Squash Club across all grades of squash. This hotly contested tournament saw a total of 68 entries from 13 different clubs in the Central District – Inglewood, Waitara, Kawaroa  Park, Hunterville, Ohakune, Turangi, Okato, Hawera, Taihape, Ashhurst-Pohangina, Eltham, Whanganui,  Squash Gym were all represented. Combined Juniors and Masters hosted in Ohakune This year Squash Central decided to trial some changes to the Junior and Masters competitions. Both the Masters and Junior competitions were combined into one massive tournament and age groups were added to the Masters competition alongside the open division. Ohakune Squash Club hosted this competition with support from the Waimarino Squash Club. These changes were a huge success and resulted in a massive turnout from around the country with over 100 entries. On 31 January 2026, 18 of Central’s top juniors travelled to Dannevirke Squash Club for the annual Central vs Eastern Challenge, hosted this year on Central soil. It marked an exciting start to the season, with several players making their debut in Central colours and proudly stepping up to represent the region for the first time. From the opening matches it was clear the day would be tightly contested. What a week it’s been for our Central Masters! The 2025 NZ Masters Championships wrapped up in Nelson after a huge week of squash, camaraderie, and plenty of competitive spirit — and our Central players did us proud across both the Individuals and Teams events.
